Esra DEMİRCİ  

1968'de İstanbul'da doğdu. Orta öğretimi Beşiktaş Atatürk Lisesi'nde tamamladı. Ortaokul ve lise yıllarında resim öğretmeni heykeltıraş Nilay Büyükişleyen sayesinde resim çalışmalarını ders saatlerinin dışına da taşıma şansı buldu. 1990'da İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü'nden mezun oldu. Resme duyduğu ilgi mimarlık üzerine yoğunlaştığı dönemde de devam etti. 1993-2003 Yılları arasında kendi şirketinde mimarlık yaptı. 2000 Yılında tüplü dalışa başlayıp, sualtı ile tanışınca, siyah beyaz sürdürdüğü çalışmalarına ara verip, pastel ve yağlıboya ile renklere dönüş yaptı.
2007 Yılında Bodrum Kara Ada Kaçakçı koyunda 10 metre derinlikte resim sergisi açtı. “Aynanın Öte Yanı” adlı sergide 2006-2007 yıllarında yaptığı 35 eserin ekolojik baskıları yer aldı. 3 Hafta boyunca sualtında sergilenen resimler BOSAD Bodrum Sualtı Derneği'nin tonozlama ve yapay resif oluşturma projeleri yararına satışa sunuldu. BOSAD Büyesi olan sanatçı sertifikalı bir amatör denizci ve dalıcıdır. 2003 Yılından beri senenin dört ayını eşiyle birlikte “Anemone” adındaki 9.6 m boyundaki yelkenlilerinde denizde geçirmekte, denizde ve karada resim çalışmalarını sürdürmektedir.
Karadaki ilk sergisi “Dip Zamanı”nda yeni çalışmalarının yanı sıra “Aynanın Öte Yanı”nda sergilenen bazı eserlerin orijinalleri de yaralıyor. “Dip Zamanı” dalışın başladığı andan itibaren yüzeye dönmek için dibin terk edilmesine kadar geçen süreyi ifade eder. Esra Demirci kendi “Dip Zamanı”nda ise sualtı dünyasıyla insanın yaşam döngüsünün kesiştiği noktada farklılaşan , belki de duran zamanı sorguluyor.

She was born in İstanbul in 1968. During her years at Beşiktaş Atatürk High School, she found the opportunity to extend her studies beyond school hours. Thanks to her teacher, sculptor Nilay Büyükişleyen. She graduated from İstanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture in 1990. Her interest for painting continued during her carrier years. She ran her own architectural company, between 1993 and 2003. When she started scuba diving in 2000, she paused her ongoing works which were used to be in black and white until then and returned to world of colours with pastel and oil colour.
In 2007 she opened a painting exhibition underwater at the depth of 10m in Kaçakçı bay at Kara Ada of Bodrum. The environment friendly prints of the 35 paintings that she painted during 2006-2007 were submerged during the exhibition named “The Other Side of The Mirror”. The prints were displayed underwater for 3 weeks and were put on sale for the benefit of Bodrum Underwater Association BOSAD for the Mooring and the Artificial Reef projects of the association. She is a member of BOSAD and she is both a certified diver and an amateur seaman. Since 2004, she spends several months of the year on the sea with her husband in their 32 ft. sailing yacht “Anemone” and continues her works on both sea and land.
In her first exhibition on land, “Dip Zamanı” or literally “depth time”, she displays the original paintings of the prints that were displayed in underwater exhibition “The Other Side of The Mirror” and her new works as well. Depth time expresses the time from the beginning of a dive until the moment when bottom is finally left for ascent to surface. In her own depth time Esra Demirci questions the time that undergoes a change or even stops at the point which the underwater world crosses one's life cycle.
